In a prayer written more than 3,000 years ago, Moses communicated with the God of the universe. “Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” (Psalm 90:1-2 NIV)
Moses served as a prophet to the people of Israel, and he led them from slavery in Egypt to a new land and opportunity. Through a difficult journey of 40 years, this leader kept the people focused on God so they wouldn’t lose sight of a bigger divine purpose. Their expedition fit into a much grander plan for saving nations.
“A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night,” (Psalm 90:4 NIV).
We too can get bogged down in daily struggles and miss what God is doing on a cosmic scale. Like the Israelites, we mourn what’s left behind and stumble with weariness. Instead of giving in to regret and fear, we can ask God to teach us how to invest time and gain wisdom.
“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands,” (Psalm 90:17 NIV).
Today’s prayer:
Dear Lord, when we resent change, please lift our gaze from immediate circumstances to see You at work. We desire that your deeds and splendor be revealed to our children through our faithful walk. Amen.
