Do texts prevent us from really conversing?

Do texts prevent us from really conversing?

Please don’t text me.

Because…

I long to hear your voice again. Listening for tone and getting you to chuckle makes me happy. I like the random tangents our conversation takes when we chat and aren’t confined to a few keystrokes on a tiny screen.

Emojis, “Liked” and “Loved” icons are pale substitutes for live interactions. Whatever happened to the delight in spending time together?

Though texting can be great for quick confirmations, the abbreviated content lacks luster and closes the door to deeper connections.

Just yesterday, I met a new lady at church. We had a nice visit before the service getting acquainted. Later, she wrote down her number with the instruction, “Text me” and passed the note across the row.

While I appreciated her gesture for follow-up, I was a little taken aback with the direction to text only. How do I get to know you when we can’t really converse?

Call me old-fashioned, but I long for opportunities to actually speak with you.

Where do you stand on this topic?

Today’s Bible Verse:

“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God….

“But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:8-9)
